Top Tips For Turning Your Garage Into The Perfect Home Gym

Whether you have sold your car or bought a new house that came with a garage you have no plans to use, so many garages are underutilised spaces that could be transformed into a bespoke additional room.

You do not need planning permission to make this conversion, and it can be a perfect way to get a home office, home gym or games room without having to build a conservatory, garden room or full-bore extension.

A home gym in your garage is often an ideal addition to make sure that you keep exercising even if you are away from a professional gym and cannot otherwise make the time. Here are some top tips for making the most of the brand new space.

Keep The Big Door

Your garage will typically have a large door to store a car, but rather than get rid of it as part of your makeover, keep it as a way to exercise outside in the summer.

Exercising in the sun and with a lot of fresh air is not always easy in a gym, at home or otherwise, but this can be a really effective way to brighten up your day and boost your workouts.

Take Advantage Of The Existing Floor

A big advantage of a garage gym rather than converting a room in your house is that your garage floor is already configured to support heavy loads.

A typical car is far heavier than a typical home gym setup, and because it is on the ground floor and on level ground, it is much easier to get equipment in and out of it rather than having to hoist it upstairs.

Because it is a solid floor and separate from the main house, it will also generate almost no noise.

With that said, you should fit flooring mats on top of the concrete to ensure that you exercise safely.
